Eowyn's Green Gown Costume Detail

Green Gown2This gown is worn briefly in Two Towers, during the scene where Grima has Eomer arrested.  For this dress, I used the Simplicity 9891 pattern, using some gorgeous dark green cotton velvet from www.Fabric.com  and an abstract leafy patterned quilting cotton from JoAnn's for the sleeve lining and bodice. I trimmed the yoke with a piece of tea-dyed guipure or venise lace that started out white and gold. The white was far too bright and the tea-dying changed it to look more like the trim in the pictures.

I now am in possession of a trim that looks almost identical to the actual trim used.Green Gown trim, no flashGreen Gown trim with flash

I modified the pattern by making the bodice and skirt separately, attaching them at the waist seam. I used the upper sleeve from the pattern, but drafted my own version from the elbow down.  In the photos below, only one half of the yoke has had the lace applied.

The belt was made from four inexpensive belts purchased in the LA garment district. I took them apart and reattached the sunbursts to each other.
